split. I have heard many stories of guys missing BQ by a few seconds, never
thought it would happen to me. No regrets though -- I threw everything I had
at it, and I wouldn't have done it any other way. Now the details.
Probably don't need to say much about my training since I always talk about
it here. After recovering from my injury in the summer, I didn't want to do
high mileage, and stayed in a moderate 40-50mpw range.

马拉松那(marathoner)不是轻易可以练成的,尤其是whx这样愿意专研技术、与大家分享技术、并以身作则push自己的。
也许你的表和official的时间有不小的误差,official的时间说不定给你个惊喜。

i've always liked to read your report, though it's really sad to hear that
you are only seconds away from your goal this time.. you've done a great
race under such bad weather! i'm also a little surprised that you won't

I don't think there will be more than 1 second difference. I started my
watch when I crossed the starting line.

Well, I felt that this obsession with a BQ pace was taking a bit fun away
from running. Too much pressure - especially because BQ is around the limit
of my ability right now. I'd like to just run a lot without worrying about
my pace for a while.:)

I don't think I'm affected by my cold or the weather. The cold might
affected my tapering a bit, but these are part of the game. There are always
unpredictable factors. I know my body pretty well, and BQ is definitely no
easy task for me. Race predictors are meaningless to me at the marathon
distance.

I was thinking the same. Having come so close will only make BQ sweeter. I thought if I failed to BQ because stomach upset or some unpredictable accident like that, I'd give it another try in a month or two. But I feel that I have done my best, and I am satisfied with my effort, at least for now.:)

It turned out that my official time is 3:11:17. I am actually the person
closest to the BQ time and didn't make it in today's race! damn.

Occasionally, someone may ask about 5K/10K strategy, I think you put it
the best "push... as hard as I could without actually passing out."
Indeed, you came out slightly short of BQ. Just imagine, when you get
around to BQ, the journey itself is as sweet as the destination. Thanks
for sharing.

ah, I am late to congratulate on your PR.
Though missing BQ for a few sec isn't something enjoyable, there are quite a
few things that you should definitely feel good about.
Your goal setting and pace control are pretty good. Your running mentality
is very tough! Even it was an all out effort, it doesn't necessarily say it'
s your best effort, since the cold you got is very likely a signal that your
body is overstressed and you were NOT in your peak shape in the race day.

I would look it this way:
You should be confident that you DO have the capability to BQ! It's only a
question of when.
Also, you enjoyed the whole training process so much. we are all proud of
your progress, step by step! That really motivated lots of us non-runners to
keep running.

Firstly, congrats for your PR.
I know you are experienced and I am new to marathon.However I still have
something to say: stop weight lifting or triatheletic training at least one
month prior to the marathon race.It gives you upper body mass which only
hurt your marathon performance.I admire your muscles. But they may not be
helpful to your BQ run.Just a thought.
Again, enjoyed your running stories and hope to see you BQ soon.U are a big
inspiration here!

Thanks man. I do feel that I'm too stressed. My body doesn't quite feel it
directly, but I feel it mentally which I think is really a signal from the
body. In the last few weeks leading up to the race, I didn't feel that I
truly enjoyed my training runs. I just did what was necessary. The half
ironman was quite draining already.
Next time around I'll surely be targeting 3:05 or even 3:00. Will rebuild
speed at shorter distances and go on a complete marathon training cycle next
year.

Actually, I haven't done a bench press in 8 months. I really don't have too
much upper body muscles. My weight is around 162 lb, down from 185 lb a few
years ago when I had the maximal amount of muscles.:)

今天研究了一下CIVES的RACE REPORT,发现大牛07年跑过3:11:13. 离BQ差14秒,
看来天将降大任于斯人,一定要先折磨折磨一下的.

What a coincident! I am 162 lb too for at least 10 years. I am trying hard
to lose 5-10 lb before my marathon.I am 5'10".
I saw your picture, you looked like a muscle man!:)
Interestingly I still do some bench press, lifting some weights,few times a
week.Though I only use light weight to avoid gaining extra muscles.
Another thing I can think of is: carbloading before race. I only eat
spagette/pasta. And rice does not work for me. Everytime I felt so much more
energetic during races or long run i

I'm 5'10 as well. I still do some pull-ups/pull-downs and core strength
exercises which are important for running as well as triathlon. As for carb
loading, I have to be extremely careful since I have a gentle stomach. In my
experience pasta doesn't work as well for me compared to rice. The thing
about rice is that it has minimal fiber content. It's a personal preference.
BQ isn't my ultimate goal in running, which is why I'm not in a hurry right
now. After my 50-miler in January, I will decide

情况不一样
那场比赛前从来没想过要BQ...没期望所以不会失望
折磨的是后来一年多都没法进步这14秒
