L***0 发帖数: 1283 | 1 Coming down Sugarloaf Pass was a few miles of dirt road. When I climbed the
road earlier in the race, they felt like they were flat an I didn't remember
there were rocks on the way. But now rocks seemed all over the place and
everyone of them would hurt and slow me down. The road became smoother as I
continued, and I could jog a little. But I was still going NO FASTER THAN
WALKING.
As I was chatting with the runner next to me, with words of encouragement, I
heard a familiar voice. "WHX, PUSH!" It was serendip. I was shocked that he
caught up at this point, but even more shocked at how fast he was going. He
just flew by me. All of a sudden - I have NO IDEA at all how - I started
running again. My pain just vanished that second, and I ran like I would
normally do, as if I had not run 80 miles at all. I even caught up with
serendip, and we ran side by side for a little while. Ken Chlouber said, "
you are better than what you think you are, and you can do more than you
think you can." "This race will change your life." And it came true. I was
witnessing a miracle. I just could not believe that I was running.
We were flying by other runners who were reduced to walking at that point. I
shouted words of encouragement to a runner and his pacer, "start running,
block out the pain! you can do it!" They looked at me like I was nuts. All
they could say is "nice job." That's what every runner had been saying to
one another in the last few hours.
I knew that the pace was suicidal for me and I was gambling by hanging with
serendip. But simply the fact that I could run was a miracle, and I was
going to give everything I had. When the trail turned technical again, I had
trouble keeping up. My pain had come back. With less than a mile to May
Queen, I had to stop to walk, and saw serendip vanish into the darkness. | m**k 发帖数: 18660 | 2 沙发,
