surgery, or transitional. Transitional year is usually offered by community
hospitals. It has several months of electives so lifestyle is better, thus
much more competitive.
In terms of work load:
Preliminary surgery > Preliminary medicine > Transitional
In terms of competitiveness:
Transitional > Preliminary medicine > Preliminary surgery |

Thanks, Eric. Good to know Prelim/Surgery is also actually easier than
prelim/IM. I thought anything related to surgery is more competitive than
medicine. |

to avoid the programs.

number of programs too small? or they still prefer fresh AMG although less
competitive than prelim/IM? or surgery is way smaller community here
especially for CMG? |

will you like to do after PGY-1, that can help you decide which type of
program to apply. I think not many CMGs will apply for surgery-related
fields.

I just noticed in the NRMP program results (2005-2009), that many programs
have many unfilled positions. e.g. uc davis have 11 and only 2 filled last
year, and similar for previous 5 years. Maybe the PD or chair just does not
care whether prelim positions are filled or not? If that's so, why they keep
opening that many positions? |

发帖数: 1334 | 12 There are categorical radiology and radiology advanced programs.
The categorical radiology is a five-year program which includes PGY-1. So
you only need to apply for those.
The radiology advanced programs start at PGY-2, and you will also need an
internship year (PGY-1, this can be preliminary medicine, preliminary
surgery, or transitional year). For this kind of programs, you need to apply
for both radiology (start at PGY-2) and PGY-1 positions.

want to add some prelim/surg, since it looks easier and has more positions.
