categorical position includes clinical base training (mostly internal
medicine) and advanced training (anesthesia, radiology, neurology..） 许多
program only offers advanced position instead, which means you need to look
for clinical base year separately.

player, having strong medical knowledge. Anes experience will be absolutely
plus. if not, with research background close to anesthesia, applicant can

read some idealistic idiot’s book about the life and practice of country
doctors. Students after the first year of medical school could practise at
that time to make money, which I did. I was assigned to a nurse in the OR to
put anesthesia. She put the patient on nitrous oxide, handed the bag over
to me and asked me to watch the patient. Then she left the room! I looked at
the patient and found out that he had no breath! |

guilty, never been to work that late in my life, thank God, bye bye 5 am
morning round.

有些项目找人少，纯属误伤上了scramble，比如boston的ortho居然都有一个空位。但
是另外一些就有可能是招不到人，所以scramble。比如纽约那个Lenox Hill Hospital
，26个IM只招到22个，我觉得你要是申请，不妨把这种也考虑进去。毕竟纽约那个找人
多，IMG有很大机会。
公布名单好像是违反nrme规定的，我还是只贴一部分好了，有事我就赶快删

actual cases where ultrathin bronchoscope can't reach, even though ultrathin
bronchoscope has much more broadened the ability to reach peripheral
nodules. Just curious, when CT scan shows peripheral lung nodule, wouldn't
the least invasive diagonosis be lung biopsy (by using needle) and not
bronchoscopy?

Prelim surgery is the most malignant, labor-heavy residency position among
all.
-You are free labor. You do all the dirty work,floor work.
-You will never go into the OR as a prelim intern.
-No guarantee for anything.
-I know people who did 3 year prelim surgery and still no categorical spot
available.

发帖数: 37 | 34 说说我们家的LD，当时他在做PostDoc，我辞了工作在家全职照顾几个月的娃，那时候
晚上7点多回家，吃了饭开始看书，到半夜1点过，早晨8点起床吃了早饭去上班，周六
周日自己关着门做题，只有中间休息时间出来逗逗娃，举着娃顺便锻炼身体。他来美国
做的是neuroscience ，所以当时申请住院医时填了几个neurology，几个内科，还有
anesthesia。
当时想着申请一些中等的，和那些招IMG多的program，那时候钱也很紧张，多申请一个
感觉要多出很多钱，小气的我们就填了7,8个。
然后比较惊讶的是那些中等的，内科的program没人理他，because of the GAP. 相反
顶尖的倒给他来面了。我觉得很关键的一个问题是你怎么解释你的GAP.还有大的学校，
有些时候比较看中research background，所以他会解释一下这几年都做些什么，然后
强调his research background的可以更好的帮助his clinical study，同时再表达一
下对长远的fellow及相关的临床研究很有兴趣。

发帖数: 482 | 38 我CT轮转的时候做过36个open heart的anesthesia， 跟他们有点交流。
perfusionist只在病人需要CPB，还有心脏移植供体，受体手术的时候真正工作，在off
pump的时候stand by。
不需要接触病人，但也要值班，当然可以在医院外on call，因为麻醉需要大约半小时
到一小时的时间把前期工作做好，外科曝露手术野也需要一定时间（当然可长可短）。
所以只要事先都有准备，接电话以后半小时内到医院就可以了。术中就是通过CPB控制
血流量，维持麻醉，不停地从机器上取血样测血气，维持外科医生要求的生命体征。我
们这时候也在场，但是总的来说是休息的时间，在他们守不住的时候另外给药。
收入似乎是100K左右，on call另加。听说现在都需要master degree了。
现在越来越多手术可以做微创，就是心脏瓣膜置换也有了，当然技术还不那么稳定成熟
，但是这是大趋势。所以我不看好这个行业的就业趋势。 |

Here is my two cents: only from my personal experience:
Post-bac RN program, you use your MD degree as undergrads, it is competitive
, but once you get in, it is 15 months program, relative short. You also get
to know the system, as a RN student. If you are luck and proactive, you
may find MD you can shadow with and give you good reference. The back up is,
even you are not able to get match in future, you can apply for nursing

一个同事病倒了，不晓得什么时候才能回来。
有人生病，就有人顶班。就这么多人，健在的人只能硬抗。这里有类似于国内的备班，
有人临时生病，备班的得一个小时内到医院，一般是备10天。因为她生病少了个人，我
得连续备20天。如果她一直病着，余下人的假期、周末和自选轮转都会受到影响。住院
总倒是很稳，因为他只告诉我们：“凡事要以大局为重。” 这时就感觉，虽然每天我
们是呆逼，但是好比航空母舰也要有扫厕所的一样，intern还是有价值的。说到排班，
还是和国内有不同的。第一天就知道整年的排班，哪个小时该去哪里，写得清清楚楚。

nurse practitioner，现在有两个医院的offer， 都是ICU，其中一个的名气大些，医
院也大， 另一个是unversity 的 附属 hospital，医院比较小，名气也不大， 不知道
