accountant给详细计算了保险报销、自付项目，然后让我按照他们的计算方式预付了我
的自付额，按照他们的算法，我预付的数目比以后保险报销下来后我自付的部分只多不
少，这将是我可能自付的ceiling的费用了，言之凿凿，让我放心治疗。结果搞完牙齿
后两个星期，保险公司的EOB寄到了，牙医的很多治疗项目都不能报销（比如使用了保
险公司不cover的crown材料，filling的材料不对等等），我需要支付的数额比已经预

发帖数: 33 | 4 带小朋友去看pediatric dentist。医生给她数了数牙齿，就说要做8个大牙的cap（相当于crown）和两个root canal。 比较疑惑的是，大人看牙还要照x－ray才能确定crown和root canal的treatment plan，儿医count两下牙齿就这么肯定
吗？这个医生的计划是保险approve后 （自己还要付1600刀），就直接预约到children's hospital 去做手术去，一次做完，用笑气（？）麻醉。
现在还在寻求second opinion。觉得找个好的pediatric dentist不容易。这是小朋友看的第二个pediatric dentist了。半年前看的一个说她有4颗虫牙，做temporary filling就行了，管到5岁。我们做了2-3个，没做完是小朋友太小不配合，医

- I trust conservative dentists.
My husband is a dentist and he told me similar cases about his peds patients
(conservative treatment and monitoring, the conditions might reverse). I am
sure some patients will still end up needing procedures with good oral
hygene later but the dentisit would not predict who would be. |

physicians have their own offices, there are usually multiple dentists per
office, the only conclusion you can safely make from these data is dentist
offices on average make more than physician offices, which i agree
but if you try to extrapolate that data to a per physician and per dentist

as many dentists I know do the same); but can start as soon as the kid has
teeth; some kids will cry during the visit (because of the unfamiliar) and

Our daughter was having cavities from two years old, we have seen three
dentists for opinions, all suggested surgery with general anesthesia. We
didn't do that because she didn't feel pain from the cavity, our thoughts
was to try to stop the cavity and delay the surgery as long as possible. We

I got silver fillings when I was a kid and they are still pretty good.
But my dentists told me that the composite fillings will only last 7 years.
So if you are a 25 year old that has a composite filling, and you die when

pediatrician. the dentist said it is not serious, but need surgery. and
because the kid is small, and he said he cant performance surgery without 麻
醉. and 麻醉 cost is out of pocket, and may or may not have side effect.
after checking around other dentists, was told that 麻醉 is not required. so

trauma, and only local anesthesia is used. US dentists (for extracting wisdom
teeth, usually specialist) usually extract all teeth at once, using general
anesthesia. Either way works, since her/his sister is the dentist in China, it
is probably pretty flexible for how many teeth to extract at one time. But one
thing is for sure, they won't use general anesthesia, that means the patient
will get several pokes.

to extract two, that plan may save you some money. general dentist is
usually cheaper, but if your case is difficult, general dentist may suggest
you to see a specialist, then the price will increase around 30%.

What the dentists or orthodontists do is to take impressions of your teeth.
All the impressions are sent to the same computer for CAD. I do not think
that the computer can recognize which impression is from a general dentist
and which from orthodontist. |

you might get in trouble in the future
and may lose the tooth.
Other dentist may say no, and ask you find another dentist to do the filling.
This is a judgement call. I do what I do because I know that the tooth will
be OK in a majority of cases. But if
another dentist do believe that you will get infection and may likely lose
the tooth, he or she may insist that

只做了mouth evaluation，就是大概检查一下没洗牙。又约到今天去洗，结果洗完结账
的时候我被告知做的不是routine teeth cleaning，而是full mouth debridement。保
险不cover这个，要我自己付全部大概$190. 有些问题想不明白，请这里的专家指点！
我很生气，第一,我事先根本不知道是要做什么full mouth debridement，以为就是做
routine teeth cleaning。如果他们事先告诉我的话，我会去seek second opinion。
这样做完才跟我说，不是等于抢钱吗？？？
第二，我上网查了，这个full mouth debridement是针对那些很久没有洗牙的人做的，
目的是做完这个后可以对牙齿有个clear evaluation,方便做routine teeth cleaning
。 可是我去年才做过deep cleaning，我很怀疑到底有没有必要作这个debridement??

After initial comprehensive exam, a detail treatment plan will be made.
The dentist maybe didn't present the treatment plan to you, or you just
missed that part.
Your chief complaint is #17, so I am sure there will be a plan for that
tooth, either extraction or filling.
#18,#19 may have cavities, occlusal cavity usually will not show on x-ray.
After filling, there maybe temporary sensitivity.

事情是这样的，我LD的第8个牙齿在牙龈上有个小包，所以她的dentist refer她去做根
管治疗。在做根管治疗时，进行了一个多小时，期间我由于等的太久，从而进去问医生
怎么回事。此时才得知他们在第7个牙齿上进行了治疗。后来我问我妻子，得知期间由
于治疗时间过长麻药失效而重新注射了麻药。
从牙医给我展示的片子看来，在第7个牙齿里面根本没有infection；第8个牙齿的
infection是非常明显的。牙医当时跟我说，第7个牙齿也是有问题的，做root canal是
迟早的事；然后她愿意do us a favor，为我LD做2个root canal，只收一个钱，并且愿
意为第7个牙齿免费补。我当时就反驳说，人总是要死的，这也并不意味着你就可以自
由杀死人。不过我们这次的目的是修第8个牙齿，所以我还是让她先弄好它再说。其实
，我的底线是发生的都已经发生了，你帮我把第7个牙齿处理好也就算了。我们都是很
随和的人。

cleaning. Usually it's fully covered. But this dentist billed me extra after
insurance. The amount he billed me is less than fifty bucks. I went ahead

你可以看一下periodontist。一般地说他们在牙周手术上也更有经验，你也有个
second opinion。当然有的general dentist也很厉害，只是少拿个master.
牙周手术算是很小的手术了。很多手术的目的是去除干净牙龈下的牙石，并且消除深的
牙周袋，这样才好maintain。所谓的牙龈萎缩是在手术前就已经在了，手术不是原因。 |

can yelp for a good dentist. I did and found a great dentist. What a

的dentist。省什么也别在医疗上省钱。我公公曾经用过便宜的中国dentist，做得很不
好，最后还是花大价钱找好牙医弥补。 |

As a dentist, I am not recommending going back to China and getting
treatments done. There is big difference between general dentist and
pediatric dentist in treating very young patient.
