and writing books for the rigorous Common Core curriculum, whistleblowers

这个版学到了许多。
两年前自费出来读 Master，其实就是为了在国外镀个金。家里不算富有，跟大部分出
国的人一样。父母平时省吃俭用，拿出家里大半的积蓄准备供我读书。出来的时候身上
带了五千美元，家里每月通过建行boa给我转两千，就这样过了几个月，等到熟悉这边
的生活之后，突然发现周围很多人在打工。我室友在第二学期去找老师做本科生的
grader，另外一个朋友也在学校里做起了兼职。向父母要钱的日子总不好过，虽然每次
要钱都难以开口，但他们从来没有半点犹豫，第二天就把钱转了过来。那段时间也一直
在想自己能做些什么减轻父母的负担，我期望的是，最好能cover我平时的生活费，那
些类似中餐馆打工送外卖的工作是不会考虑的，性价比太低了。曾经想过炒股票，因为

除非有grader).两年的经验，这种作业最有效：就是学生得到练习，花时间去作，但批
改作业的（就是我）只扫一眼就能断对错。
举个例子：我让学生research阳光在地球表面随季节和纬度的分布，然后用Matlab画图
成contour。最后作业交code和图。我只扫一眼，就知道对错。有人说，这样不是很好
抄袭吗？没错。但一个学生如果is determined要抄，你怎么也拦不住。所以我换软的
：我就将说你等毕业后要找工作，这时必过的一关。你现在抄，面试是总不能抄吧。结
果大家果然认真做。

你以后最好直接叫我Dr X或Proessor X,
因为美国很多教授是很忌讳学生直呼first name的，
有些甚至怀恨在心不让学生毕业。
他说他不止一次听到教授之间说：“这个TA真没礼貌，从不叫我Proessor，
每次都是直呼我first name！”
他还说，这些话都只是教授之间说，不会给学生说的，所以我们学生都不知道。
所以他说“作为同胞我给你提个建议啊”。
这是真的吗？我有点怀疑啊。我来美国3年了，对德高望重的老师确实称Proessor，但
不少老师都我们学生都直接叫他first name啊。
而且本科生课上，很多学生都直接叫教授first name问问题。
是不是美国人教授不介意这些，但其他种族的更介意一些呢？

我刚来的美国的时候基本不会说英语。读PHD第一年是fellowship。不干活白拿钱。系
里叫我去考英语，得了1分（满分4分）。后来开始做grader。折腾了很久英语合格可以
做TA了。上课一两周之后被学生complain到教授那里。基本情况和你说的十分类似。教
授来听了一节课，说没有大问题，给了些一般性的建议。我自己也做了些改正，教书的
第一个学期很痛苦的渡过。几年之后到我毕业的时候，我的学生综合评分到了3.8，3.9
的样子（满分4分）。拿到了系里的给TA的teaching award。可能是我们系历史上第三
个亚洲人拿到那个奖。
口音肯定是一个问题。即使现在我全职教书，很多学生说我是系里最好的老师，但是每
年的期末评语上还是会有一两个学生提到口音的问题。我看法是口音可以提高和改正，
但不能完全消除。有口音不会妨碍你成为一个好老师。
我的几条小经验（有些前面的朋友也说过了）：
1．要自信。内心的自信能反映到你的谈吐和身体语言。反过来，通过声音和身体语言
的训练，能够让你（至少看上去）更自信。前面有位朋友说得好：说话声音一定要大。

marketing 的课都是规定要上我也没什么很大兴趣 所以我不喜欢这些课的老师像高中
老师 本来谁都不喜欢phd教课因为毕竟水平不如教授（不好意思哦但是我们是真的这样
认为的）
早来晚走是正常的 不要点人回答问题了 可以take attendance 一定有那种积极举手的
孩子的 slide不用等 对于我来讲要么带电脑打字很快 要么我就下课打印出来 我还有
时候图省事直接看课本看仔细就不抄笔记不打印了 不用发email 总结是挺烦的
有个小建议 多和学生分享你的私人故事和经历 我们都喜欢这个 至于商学院学生 特别
是非accounting的 课又不难所以天天参加一些org搞那些leadership training一个个
尾巴翘到天上去 都装逼到一个境界 一个个都以为是下一个世界首富呢 别在意他们 你
要摆出老师的姿态就好了 比如不要接受晚交的作业如果迟到早退超过15分钟可以直接
算是absent 成绩可以严一点 称为大家口中的easy grader你会很委屈的 不过我们最
