相传《推背图》一书诞生在唐代初期，它是一部中国历史发展预言书。它的作者是唐代
初期著名预言家袁天罡和李淳风二人。其中，由南宋抗金名将岳飞的后代岳珂所作的《
桯史》中主张此书的作者只是李淳风一人。
此书的由来是唐太宗李世民问袁天罡和李淳风二人：“大唐的江山能够维持多久?继承
大唐江山的都是些什么人?”这个问题本来是中国古代社会中的帝王们所患的一种“江
山病”而已。但是，精通天文、历法的著名预言家袁天罡和李淳风二人，为了回答唐太
宗李世民的这一疑问，立刻一人在前面走、一人在后面推前面人的后背，二人走一步就
说出一句识语和颂语 (即预言诗)，御用画家马上就把他们二人所说所看的情景画下来
。故名之为《推背图》。
传说，袁天罡和李淳风二人共走了一千六百步，象征着自大唐开国626年开始，往下预

美国的早期settlers都是英国人，是英国军队把印地安人往西赶后从英国本土搬来的占领者
他们并不是英国imperialism的受害者，而是得益者
当时美国（应该称america colony)长期靠低价卖给英国原材料，包括棉花，烟草等，而高价从英国进口工业品，甚至东印度公司转运的茶叶都被加上很高的税（后来发生了反对进口茶叶的Boston的倾茶事件），自己的工业根本建不起来，而且是强买强卖。英国为了垄断对美国settlers的出口，利用世界当时最庞大的海上力量，严厉打击任何对美国的走私。
这种利益上的分配不均，导致了美国的settlers的反抗，当时著名的口号是No
taxation without representation，美国的settlers认为给英国政府上了tax,但在British Parliament却没有代理人来维护自己的利益，是不公平的
