Not because you are not nobel laureate, (btw: to whoseever ID is BerettaFan,
you seem to bark everywhere, are you insane or what?)
but you are lack of strong evidence to be a leader of a field: such as
tenure-track faculty position, or editor of core journals, or receiving some
high-profile awards---note that fellowships are not really awards as they
are rewarded for your proposal not for your
final accomplishments.

2）Depends on how the letters were drafted. They should be concise and eye-
catching in establishing the reference's credential, not too much, but
certainly not less either. Let's say if a Nobel laureate says your Work is
great, he's providing an objective evaluation. But if he says You are
awesome, that's dubious.
3）If your adviser is a native English speaker, writing grant proposals all

2/2/2012 I-140 Efile
2/3/2012 把材料寄出去的，pp，TSC。
2/8/2012 晚上6点收到邮件。当时听说USCIS的系统有问题，会显示错误的状态，所以
一时未敢轻信这个结果，直到今天查看，状态依然是approved，所以才赶来发帖。
background：国内phd，来美postdoc两年半，材料相关领域，纳米材料与器件，太阳能
电池材料，导电材料等等。
paper：31，10 first author。
review：22 （同一篇稿子的第二次第三次审，我都给加上了）
citation：>400
claim了authorship，contribution和review。
PL写了14页，主要就是照着一些基本的模板走的，尽量以图表为主。RL是美国2，日本1
，德国1，香港1，还有就是自己的老板。其中一个independent也是一个新出的杂志的
associate editor，所以在准备推荐信时就用了一小段强调了一下审稿的问题。所有的

if it is 4 page for everybody then you have some problem.
Ppl have their own preferences, so one 2 page, another 3 page, another 3
page, while the last one 4 pages is good If it is an academian or Nobel
laureate, one can understand if he only write one page since he is usually
busy. |

In this connection, I think who cited your paper (top universities, Nobel
Laureates) is more important than which journal (excepte CNS) cited it. |

（1）把所有别人大段引用你文章的内容打印出来（别人文章的第一页和含引用你文章
的那页），highlighted。
（2）统计或者列举引用你文章的人的背景（比如什么院士，outstanding professor等
等）和所在的institution,什么Harvard,Princeton,MIT （not mitbbs）,Stanford等。
（3）强调引用你文章的杂志的top rank，比如你的science文章（别管第几作者）肯定
被很多science, nature, cell的文章引用过了。
（4）Elife的主编是去年Nobel laureate，你在列举你的elife文章时候强调这点。
（5）推荐信里要肯定你工作的significant contribution或者breakthrough in the
field，最好还能强调你个人的top。

You need to put in information regarding the conference size, number of
attendees to show its impact.
It's very impressive to be the keynote speaker for, say, RSNA (35,000
attendees, largest medical conference in the world). But if you're the
keynote speaker for a 100 people conference, unless you can provide evidence
to show it is an "elite conference" (ie. several nobel laureates were also
the keynote speakers / attendees), then i would leave it off cause you may
get RFEed. |

paper是其中之一，意义就会小很多。推荐人毕竟不是电影明星，就算是noble prize
laureate，除了Einstein那样的，如果不特别指出，除了业内人士，估计IO不会有什么
人知道。所以，人牛不牛在IO眼里差别不是很大，关键是他能在自己的paper（either
research paper or review）能够有力地评价你的原创性工作。 |

介绍如何“深入挖掘”，所以自己在DIY做材料的时候苦于没有一个step-by-step的
guideline，于是我对citation analysis这个事儿做了些研究总结，分享出来benefit
后来人。
开篇点题，引用一句俗话“没有丑女人，只有懒女人”——在这里我要说“没有弱case
，只有不认真挖掘的case”。citation少，咱们可以借鉴一下女生照相——化浓妆、摆
pose、打光、PS，各种修饰一番后恐龙也能照成白富美。同理，按如下方法挖掘
highlight一番之后，再少的citation也能塑造成学术大牛：
1. 引用杂志：可以挖掘引用杂志的IF, Eigenfactor，及其排名（最好和所有SCI收录
的8000多本杂志比较），还有篇数，证明经常被发表在top journal的文章引用。可以
在exhibit里列一个总表，把所有的引用杂志按排名升序排列，这样很多数据便一目了
然了，如：一共被多少本杂志引用过，被top 50 (or 100) 杂志中的多少本引用过，超
