其实这个职位空了快五个月了， 老板的老板 （B）一直在管理我们组， B管理大大小

以前替朋友在这里试过，还是比较有效果。现在再帮朋友试试。这次不仅仅是招
engineer，还招manager。
做的东西我也不是很懂，是关于马鬃所有商品的分类。但是听朋友说数据量很大，几百
个billion甚至上trillion的数量级，核心team之一。有机会利用各种open/close
source software and push to the boundaries，不是做各种短平快的business
projects。performance的要求很高，和数据挖掘，机器学习有很紧密的集成机会。
朋友的team现在发展比较快，高层也支持扩张。所以manager也招。如果你现在是比较
强的engineer，但是想转换轨道，这也是个好机会。

He want to use "Principal" to state his level (7) in Amazon.
But senior dev/engineering manager is in Level 7 (Principal). They are
usually in charge of an engineering team of 20-50 people.
Senior Product managers are in Level 6. They are actually ICs and don't have
any direct reports usually.

PM 的工作很杂，简单讲，除了 coding 与 testing 之外，所有开发过程中剩下来的事
情都是 PM 在做。写 spec，订 schedule，与其他 team 协调沟通，....
"据说 Program Manager 的技术要求不是很高。"
未必，看你是做什么的 PM。有的 PM 只负责做 build，这种 PM 基本上没什么技术要
求。但你是 PhD，这职位应该是有相当技术要求的。一般而言，programmer 对于技术
钻得很深，但 PM 则比较广，which can be a plus or minus depending on your
personal career goal。
“我映象中 Program Manager 就是整天开会，催人要东西，事情很杂。”
呵呵，别说得像个死老百姓，要学会一些大公司的行话（黑话）才能 blend in。这行
话叫做 coordination，你是 driver，你 drive 别人做东西。（Again，PM 有很多种
，像前面说的那种做 build 的 PM 就不需要 drive 谁。）

你们这个喷得也太随意了。如果原帖里面爆的人名是正确的，那这个老中manager X手
下大team有一半是中国人，也有其他的老中lead，已经能够算老中manager的典范了。
在这种情况下，把手下的一个混混lead变成IC，level不减工资不少，怎么算内讧了？
提携中国人是一部分，要想和别的老美老印manager打架也得靠自己手下要能出活啊。
个人认为如果老板是老中，那就应该努力工作，多出成绩，这样能够把老板抬上去，然
后顺便把你拉上来。这才是咱们在北美IT圈的立足之道。自己不图上进给老板出难题，
到了这份上怎么又能怪到老板头上去？ |

看下面的WSN这样数落面试他的中国同胞, 作为一个hiring manager, 忍不住说几句
我见过的中国人, 有点招聘权利的, 都倾向于招中国人.
但不是说中国人面试你了, 就一定要录取你.
没录取你, 更不表示和中国人过不去,
因为很可能他面试和录取的都是中国人, 只是那个中国人不是你.
有一点倒比较肯定, hiring manager在看简历的时候, 肯定已经知道你是中国人, 所以才给你面试的机会. 如果一开始就不大算招中国人, 叫你来浪费时间干嘛.
我招人的时候, 收到的简历, 中国人占20%左右, 印度人占50%. 我电话和on site三分之二都是中国人. 这些没拿到offer的中国人, 大概也会JJWW: 如果hiring manager不是中国人, 大概拿到offer了. 事实是, 如果hiring |

因为是研究机构，大老板和二老板当面说是提拔我。当他和管钱的经理和我的manager
说起时候，她们说process慢啊，我在这单位呆的时间不够啊。。。说要从我现在这个
职位升到database manager起码两年（现在快1年而已）。也就是说不肯。。。。我现
在做的东西没几个是在我position description的。不过你们也知道的，description
里面有一条说other duties assigned。虽然我的manager和管钱的经理
是我上司，但是我大部分时间都花在了做大老板，二老板和数据总经理的东西上了。。
。我也基本不和她们汇报工作的。。。
要在等一年。。然后大老板和二老板给我更多东西做。。title和pay完全不匹配

admin burden. I am most concerned about their rigid firm-wide policy, e.g.

strictly interpret the legal definition of "Executive/Manager" for the

工程行业，普遍女性少，女性多止于低层。中层管理层里女性比例比起其他行业要低很
多，高层里，女性那真是凤毛麟角了。这些也是大家都意识到的，据我所知，这个问题
也是很困扰大的施工公司。许多公司也会去刻意培养，但是出于种种原因，能在施工行
业继续走下去的女性，少之又少。 我想有一个主要原因是没有什么女性榜样， 在高层
里。所以在职场上，工作了几年后，许多女性就会反思，这条路，我还能走下去吗？平
常的男性的职业途径貌似不适合自己。所以许多女性就选择退出了，或者止步了。
我想说得是，不要失去希望。前面没有榜样，自己走出来做榜样。
说一个我的例子：
我是construction engineering & management专业的， 我也是女生啊。我毕业后至今
工作一年半了。
我前老板，前两个月才辞职的。她毕业后工作了七年，二十九岁，离开公司之前的
TITLE是CONTRACT MANAGER。走之前和我聊过，她说，她的路已经到头了，看不到前途

发帖数: 495 | 46 依个人经历，construction management 的确没有 structrue 好找工作。
我当初也是来学 construction management 的，毕业后赶上911，根本找不到
construction 的职位
。但那时小公司还招 structrue 的，就硬着头皮去了，靠着本科的底子和工作经验，
在老板的骂声中边工作边学习了半年，以后就慢慢熟悉了。
再有，对比现在公司里的这两个部门，感觉什么人都可以干 construction management
，因为没什么技术含量。有的老美也就高中毕业，有的只是 college 毕业，但只要能
说, 都干得好好的。但说的方面正是我们老中不擅长的。structrue 就不一样了，靠技
术，靠经验，不是人人都行的。老美学 engineering 的人还是相对较少的，所以在这
方面我们比较有竞争力。
但由于你有 construction management 的奖学金，还是慎重考虑吧！毕竟可以省不少
钱呐。

做management有很多让人进步的地方，我和我们一个做management的同事关系很好，他
说他从CEO还有sales VP那里学到很多工程师学不到东西，有时候我有办公室人际或者
政治方面的问题不会处理的时候，他教给我的方法很好用
不做manager这种方面的训练就会少很多 |
