I do not think anyone who familiar with, say, Vanguard actively managed
funds will agree with you.
I tend to agree in US large and mid-cap space, especially for taxable
account, index funds/ETF is hard to beat. I tend to avoid bond index if I
have choice, I also favors actively managed allocation funds, foreign funds
especially Asian funds over their index counterpart.
I need to add I am not into cap-weighted index.

Well, on the contrary, it's perfect tool for the average Joe considering the
downside protection of 0%. If you been through 2008 of 38% down market then
you would appreciate that and sleep better at night. It's simply trade off.
Average Joe can't trade like goodbug, they tend to lack of self-discipline
and tend to sell low and buy high.

there's no fix time that a short sale can be "approved" (then another 30-45
days to close)--or may not be approved at the end.
the length of time really depends on
1. how many lenders on the prop--1st vs 2nd mtg vs equity line. obviously
one lender should be the most efficient. multiple lenders require multiple
lenders approval (all of them whom may have diff interest in the prop). if

很感谢, heat pumps 的效率 和Geothermal Heat Pumps 当然没法比,说到
Geothermal Heat Pumps,有一点我倒不是很确定,在open loop 状态下,COP值再怎么
算,效率最高也不过在500%-600%, 但Heat pump 机子是根本达不到这个效率的,可
tend 在三楼提到在那个温度点heat pump最高可达到500%,我是想不出他是用哪一个品
牌,多少吨位的机子做如何的计算得出来的,或许我哪里没有想到? HSPF 10的机子,
达到300% 是完全可能的,可是要知道驾Mercedes 的毕竟是少数, 房奴们怎么买得起啊
!如果真的需要装到如此豪华的机子组合也能节省能源,这岂不是和穷人开玩笑。
15 SEER heat pump 一线,二线机子也就3,4个厂家在制造,且都是品牌厂家, HSPF 值
都可达到或超过9,配对好的话可达到9.2,去年有个机会对其中一个品牌的3顿 14
SEER,HSPF 8.5机子在37F的环境下做过计算,当时计算出的效率值在220% 左右。这儿

买新车,有机会成本。比如车6.5万,你需要拿出6.5万块钱。这6.5万块,你本来是可
以做投资用的。假如你投资贷款的利率是5%,那么你的机会成本就是5%。假如你的闲钱
投资回报是8%, 那么你的机会成本是8%。如果你是贷款买车,利率4%,那么你的机会
成本是4%。如果你有闲钱,也不投资,也没贷款,那么你的机会成本是0%。
在有机会成本的前提下,你买车的成本就不仅仅是折旧成本,还要加上机会成本。
例子:6万5的车,购物税6%,最后OTD价格是6.89万。
三年后车的残值是54%,即3.51万。
折旧成本三年内3.38万,平均每年1.127万。
机会成本假设是5%,则每年的机会成本是0.3445万。
三年后车按残值卖掉。买车的总成本,前三年每年是1.4715万。
租车,如果月租加上月租的机会成本小于1.4715万,就合算。例子:

Drink less milk, cos that tends to increase temperature. Drink a lot of
pedialite diluted waters. Cover him less, let him sleep more. Feed him with
Tylenol and Motrin regularly if the temperature doesn't drop down. At this
age, virus tend not to localized, so less chance for ear infection/ urine
infection. Probably it's virus infection.

如何入睡如同吃饭,是需要训练,而非天生就会。
过于疲劳的婴儿更难自己入睡,更依赖于父母的安抚。入睡之前不能太困,要在drowsy
时入睡,这样更容易入睡。
如何防止睡眠问题的出现:
1周-4周: 醒来之后的一到两个小时内开始安抚宝宝,放在相对阴暗和安静的环境下。
采取一切措施防止宝宝哭泣。最好是宝宝在drowsy而又清醒的状态下放到床上去。
4周-8周:在白天继续关注睡醒后一到两个小时这个阶段,一旦出现睡眠迹象,及时安
抚,让孩子入睡。宝宝会越来越闹,特别是在第六周的黄昏,达到顶峰。这个时候父亲
最好提前下班,在黄昏时用尽一切方法安抚孩子,包括把孩子放在婴儿车上带到外面逛
。在这个阶段,在宝宝昏昏欲睡而又未睡的时候放到床上去,宝宝很有可能不会入睡。

孩子的的大夫是Tribeca, 他们有一本书叫The Bew Basics
刚看到一个部分是关于训练孩子睡眠的。
简单说
一般是从四个月开始,但他们发现其实从两个月开始更加有效。这时间训练孩子独立睡
眠只需要三天。
晚上喂饱孩子时候把孩子扔床上,然后离开不要再打搅孩子,第二天早上再来看孩子。
孩子大概第一天和第二天会哭的比较厉害,第三天第四天就没事了。
具体文章参见下面。因为我对这便不熟悉,觉得有点夸张。他们说的是否真的这么简单
有效。当然,我逻辑上同意他们的说法,越早训练,孩子依赖性越容易摆脱,有可能事
半功倍。但不知道大家看法如何?

I actually do not think it is necessary. You tend to believe your son, the
other mom tends to believe hers. Moms might agree the kids continue to be
playdates, with closer supervision; or the moms agree to not let kids play
together. Either way, I do not think letting the kids talk about what
happened would make the situation better. 'Cause basically, one of the kids
is going to be labeled liar.

是脾气不好,后来跟老师严肃谈了几次老师注意强制他睡午觉了,他就好多了。
睡觉这事儿,睡少的人tend to 睡少,睡多的tend to 睡多,对小娃娃来说,多睡觉比

我上面说了,人没说你娃不聪明,考试无权也无能力去 judge 一个娃聪明与否,考试
仅仅是告诉你一个 positive or negative results。虽然考试 tend to be
statistically correct,但 individually 很难说,所以才有 false negative 一说。
另外考试无法 tell the future development of an individual (statistically
maybe correlated though),所以也有大器晚成一说。
但是教育系统里的考试系统,在目前这个社会里 practically work,and tend to be
the best, at least statistically。。。另一方面,教育系统里也有很多其他的系统
/努力来 work around 考试系统的弱点。。。对一个个体而言,理解和 work around

搞了一个,用developer模式,就是Android界面,可以随便安装apk apps,无线手柄很
好用,不存在有人刷机反应慢的问题。这个手柄简直就是为电视家定做的,换频道太方

first of all, when we say freedom, it's always within boundaries - we
are not talking about corner cases. i.e., if a child doesn't want to
eat or sleep, i don't think any responsible parent, american or chinese,
would do anything differently.
the difference b/w the two system, is that generally speaking, the
chinese education system, or the parents for that matter, tend to think
there is one "right" answer, or a very narrow range of "right answers".

My experience of data mining shows that indeed sophisticated systems
sometimes tend to overfitting the data. And for black box models you don't
know what is going on in there. Just like blindly following GPS may lead you
to a wrong place. So I think simpler but more intuitive ones tend to be
more robust and might be helpful in decision making - not necessarily auto
trading, but as a facilitating tool.

I am not saying there is no risk involved.
REIT tends to fare better in low interest environment. MBS tends to do well
if there is no mortgage meltdown.
Market is more concerned with international issues: European debts / Japan
tragedies / interest hikes in developing countries, none of which have
direct impact on IVR's business.
Also 60% of the MBS are backed by US gov agent so I don't think a drop-to-
zero catastrophe is likely to happen.
