这个和此文作者差不多
但对silk的解释却又不同, "Etymology: Middle English, from Old English

湖号称是湖名最长的--Lake Chaubunagungamaug。印第安语，意思是你钓你这边，我钓
我这边，没人钓中间。这个湖我每年都去几次。并不是渔产特别好原因，只是我比较熟
悉。麻省的淡水鱼种这里基本全有。我亲眼看见别人Trolling钓到2条挺大的三文鱼。
8/14，我一早拖船来到State Ramp （Town Ramp设施好，在Memeorial Day 到 Labor
Day 要收30元停车费），把船放下倒档。我就觉得不对劲，这船就打圆圈。方向盘可以
动，引擎却不跟着转动。费了一翻周折再把船拖上岸仔细检测有什么东西卡死。没有！
来都来了，我就不想不钓鱼再开回去。还好没有风，我就用电动马达在Boat Ramp左右
200-300米的地方钓钓。耗了3-4个小时，一个咬口也没有。这印证了我的小论“为什么
钓不到鱼”。我心里老想着船的Hydraulic系统问题，我几年前大修过一次1800刀，这

我一直以为literally是和figuratively相反着用的。
literally尤其是在用俗语的时候，是表示真的发生了，比如：
They were literally burning the bridge. (burn the bridge是俗语，表达的意思是
把后路断了，这里加了literally就是说明他们是真的把一座桥给毁了，俗语burn
bridge本身是figurative的说法）
我查了一下merrian webster, 的确literally在informal的情况下可以表示virtually
。但是真的很搞。而且我坚持这个还是有歧义的，不能一概而论，我知道你的例子是
google直接给出的。但即便那个例子，我觉得也要看具体的语境，可能他真的收到了几
千封信，因为thousands是虚指，一般情况下是夸张的说法。
anyway, good discussion。然后看看webster上的网友评论也是五花八门的，所以的确
有歧义：
