我知道case 有点弱. Claimed authorship, contribution and review. Accepted
authorship and review, but rejected contribution.
Immigrant officer (#XM 0182) 按照新的两步审查程序：
第一步看是否满足至少三个criteria:
Accepted authorship and review, but rejected contribution. Comments:
Letters of recommendation written by experts may be helpful; however the
major significance of your work must be demonstrated by preexisting,
independent, object evidence..
You must demonstrate your work is not only novel and useful, but it has had
a demonstrable impact on the field of endeavor. You should be able to show,
for instance, how your field has changed as a results of your work beyond
the incremental improvements in knowledge and understanding expected from
valid original research.
我的PL 以Doubleminute和shhyoung的为模版, 严格按照版上牛人总结的规律, 用了4页
篇幅强调硬性指标和客观证据, 再辅以reference comments。强烈怀疑因Texas 最近经
常关闭, 移民官赶工没怎么看petition letter, 就按模版发了NOID 草草了事.
第二步要证明：
(1) you are one of that small percentage who has risen to the top of the
field of endeavor and
(2) you have sustained national or international acclaim
Comments:
when viewed in conjunction with other researchers, your publication record,
with 100 independent citations, does not demonstrate that your work has
achieved a level of recognition that would clarify you as one of the small
percentage who are at the very top of the field, and that you have sustained
national or international acclaim.
其实, 我用了数个图表说明了
My paper published in the leading journals
My citations are way higher than average in my field (我知道总的来说有点低)
My works are extensively cited by numerous top journals
My works influenced a broad range of scientific fields
My publications have received sustained acclaims worldwide
我用这些论述claim exceptional authorship, 大量用于claim contribution 和
review的事实和论述, 也都围绕extraordinary progress and international
reputation of excellence展开. 只是没有专门开一部分论述what small percentage
I am, and how much sustained national or international acclaim. 好象常用模版
中也没有这样做.
忙了好几个月准备材料, 被IO匆匆NOID打发, 深刻郁闷和挫折中… 还望版上各位达人

虽然没有一步到位不过还有希望不是, 手头也有你说的那两份前辈的资料，觉得整理的
都很好了，觉得是不是碰到比较严厉的IO了？
关于第一个能不能找个工业界的强调一下你的技术有很好应用前途，或已经在开始应用
后面关于top,能不能强调一下你的一些文章都发在top jounal,然后在这些杂志里也是
top cited or whatever.除此以外，如果没有奖励什么的就比较难证明了

我的工作在工业界还没什么应用, 倒是在学术界有不少人用了, 这点多次强调过了.
Publication 和citation top journal 都强调过了.

我们的contribution也是最弱的一环，版上大牛说的好，要把最弱的包装成最强。我们
先是用
bullets简要概括了几个贡献：比如“changed traditional view in the field of
xxxx”，“served as a guide of xxxx","has became solid basis of xxxx",
"break down xxxx of xxxx","first scientist to discover xxxx"等，都是引文，
要么是推荐信里的，要么是硬证据里面的。现在好像比较看重硬证据了。我们找的硬证
据有：
1.media attention
就是Science Editor Choice/Cell Snapshot/Faculty 1000/某篇review专门针对ld的
一篇文章/Highly Accessed/Most Viewed Last Year等等。这些其实都可以进行量化，比
如science的editor choice，一年领域内有20多篇，然后用scoupus查询那年领域内有
多少
篇，这样很容易就top 1%了。很多杂志都提供most viewed last year/month，我是一
个一个
去翻，month没有year说不定就有，一般是有排名的，这样又是一个top证据。即使是某
journal
的editor choice，那也是几十里面选几个，一样是top的。
2.reliance on my findings by other experts
其实就是citation里面比较醒目的几个例子，如果某文章反复引用好几次（>5），没你
的文章也就
没他的文章，这就是非常好的证据。
3.justified by anonymous peers who reviewed my articles.
找出当初文章被评审时的意见，这比推荐信要客观。有的杂志要求rate manuscript的
质量，
有“an article of importance in its field”之类的评价。
另外再说几个claim small percentage的方法。
Chronicle of Higher Education 有一个Top Research Universities Faculty
Scholarly Productivity Index，跟前十的faculty比文章数目和citation数目，如果差
不多的话，那也是top 3%之内。
ISI有个Average Citation Rates Percentile Table，在Essential Scientific
Indicators里面，有1%，10%，等等percentile的引用次数，如果在1-10%内也算是top
了吧。
reviewer如果杂志提供所有reviewer名单，即使上千人，用ISI查询某领域的作者，一
般也好几
万了，又是证明top%的证据。

deeper, you have to know who used your stuff and got the new result, and
these results will not become possible without your discovery.

我倒也很注意具体数据和硬证据. 我强调了significance, impact, reputation和
extraordinary, 但我确实没有很强调相对其他scientists 的percentile, 部分因为这
些数据不太好找, 部分因为自己没太注意.
感觉你的claim small percentage的方法非常好. ISI Average Citation Rates
Percentile Table 可以给个链接吗? 以前就搜过, 一直没找到 (好象要subscription)
. 另外, 怎么用ISI查询某领域的作者, 可否说点细节.

查领域作者其实是查某topic发文的作者数，就是ISI Web of Science进去后search，
出来很
多文章，在左边有个author选项，点开后选more options/values，出来很多作者名单

别；比如engineering文章小于10的话容易给人负面印象
我建议你找找硬通货，比如有没有做过session chair，有没有世界各地的人发信问你
要论文拷贝或者问问题，有没有被邀请做过seminar，别的公司有没有请你做报告？你
或许光凭100个引用你的大牛形象还不够丰满 | d****n

偶知道case较弱, 也找了很多硬证据. 其实100 citation 在领域内很decent, 但可能
给OI感觉不是太好. 如你所说, 还得多多包装形象.

sustained impact，老大提出20，80，20，工程的放宽到10或许可以，但是低于10就要
看运气了

Extra letter 可能帮助有限.

是不是应该从证明会议文章也很牛入手？比如会议文章的引用也很高 ，
相对业内平均的话，而且会议的录取率很低等等。
文章不要刻意区分期刊和会议，都很重要，特别是CS和工程领域。
我记得以前有人发过一个ACM的文章，论证CS领域内会议论文平均引用
要超过期刊论文。
另外你的4页的petition letter是不是太短了，很多问题没有展开说明呢？

我的4页是指contribution, PL总共近20页.
