Inspection reports says there is Asbestos like materials used as heating
ducts in the garage. And cost to remove it will be 2K, if it's real Asbestos
. (Asbestos is a known health hazard, and must be removed by qualified
company or technician by state law. It's a felony removing it yourself )
That is quite harsh, a felony for renovating your own house. You are
probably not in CA. Anyway, if you did not do the test, and is not aware of

for health reason. We suspect there are more vinyl tiles under floor in
other areas of this house.
The credit given is not enough to install hardwood floor for all these 1500
sqft area. When we remove the carpet and install hardwood floor above these
tiles, we could disturb the asbestos and make it airborne. We are also not
sure whether hardwood floor is a good solution to encapsulate the asbestos.

2%的Asbestos 在内墙上的texture里。
Layer: Beige Skimcoat/Joint Compound Chrysotile Asbestos 2 %
Total Composite Values of Fibrous Components: Asbestos (2%)
Cellulose (Trace)
Synergy Environmental Inc的人表示刮旧texture不可能完全去掉Asbestos，想换
texture唯一的办法是换内墙。
哪位有这方面的经验可以分享？ |

google了一下，觉得remove这个tile危险更大，cost也高，不如在它上面在cover一层
carpet。不知道装carpet的时候需要破坏tile来固定carpet吗？还是就是粘在上面？如
果是粘在上面，我在想能否在asbestos tile上面先cover一层其他的tile，然后再
cover carpet，这样以后换carpet的时候也不用disturb下面的asbestos tile。
我的agent和inspector说不去disturb它应该没有问题，不放心就cover一下。
有没有同学遇到类似的情况，都是如何处理的呢？谢谢！ |

发帖数: 293 | 7 麻省大多数房子都是80年代之前的，asbestos问题在麻省很common，主要存在basement
heating system的管道上，有的一看就看出来了。另外就是一些年代的vinyl floor下
面是asbestos。在basement问题稍小，但vinyl floor 下面的就麻烦很多。
有专业的公司清理，清basement管道比较简单，一般一两千，视工作量而定。vinyl
floor的清理就比较难说了。
其实asbestos也不是什么大问题，但入住前解决还是好很多。 |

板重新弄一下会比较漂亮。
现在取样了之后去lab做了测试，发现里面有2%的asbestos，找了newton的一家专门的
contractor来估价，750sqft要近9000。。。算下来要11/sqft
想问问是不是专业去除asbestos都是这个价格？或者Boston地区大家有什么好的
licensed contractor推荐吗？ |

not be asbestos specialist with lic because the specialists charge far more.
To properly remove asbestos in a way to boost ur property value, u must
obtain permit with the city, which will require u to go with lic'd
specialist, so that the removal will be inspected, recognized and recorded.
I would just texture over, or do it properly with permit. |

房子里很长时间，所以清除必须要找专门的公司，他们会有保护措施，比如洒水洒冰，
目的是吸附asbestos灰不让它disturb。
其实专业公司除也就多2-3K，seller为了省钱就不顾buyer的健康危险，看来法律也没
有什莫办法。大家买旧房要小心了。
希望不是老中买了这个房。 |

是石棉材料。我们想搬进去之前做大规模的装修，厨房和所有的厕所要重装，还要移动
几面墙来扩大厕所的面积，所以很担心会把lead dust和asbestos fiber搞得到处都是。
大家有这方面的经验吗？是不是要先请专门做asbestos的contractor来做assessment
and removal？我在网上看到的建议还有装修完了要换air filter，用high efficient
vacuum吸，及whole house wet wipe-down。感觉真麻烦呀，如果真是这样，我们也许
就放弃这个老房子了。

Asbestos。seller觉得不是，但不能拿出证据，但表示如果是的话，他们愿意花钱处理

Probably best approach is to ask professional to JUST remove the drywall in house professionally and then ask general contractor to build new inner walls.

Even somebody tells you that they can "completely" remove asbestos,
would you risk your health and your children's, even it's a tiny
possibility? I wouldn't.
Just move on - there are plenty of houses out there. |

There are not many houses in our price range in this area.After considering
some factors we do not like, we are normally only interested in several
houses, which other buyers are interested in as well. So, it is so tough to
buy a house.
For this house, if we knew the asbestos vinyl tiles in the living area
before we made the offer, we would not make any offer. |

construction biz (neighbor, friend, no conflict of interest), both of them
told me that even if there's leakage, the amount of asbestos can hardly do
any harm. People who did develop cancer years later are usually those
contractors and subs who had to breathe it day in day out in an industrial,
not residential, setting.

But, also found some discussions of asbestos in these areas, esp El dorado
hills.
Can anybody living in these areas or knowing this make any comments or
advice?
If it is a real issue, how about Granite Bay, is it a good town?

There are only a few models can do it.
air purifier generally can not do it as well. Those vacuums can do asbestos
cleaning job geneally can be converted to the asbestos air purifiers.
