OBJECTIVE: Incorporate your bigger muscles into the shot and learn to cup the ball.
Players who use their whole bodies when they swing are generally more consistent with their strokes. Take the serve as an example: A player who gets good body rotation and uses his shoulders and legs is going to have a more effective serve than someone who just uses his arm. Using the big muscle groups will sustain consistency for the course of the match, whereas using only the smaller ones will caus |

b*****t 发帖数: 758 | 11 Good solid 3.5 player (3.85?, should win most 3.5 level games). Good
footwork, forehand, first serve. Decent second serve (good enough for 3.5
level games).
One obvious weakness is the backhand. That weak slice backhand has to go to
move up.
Another thing to work on is to take the ball on the rise. Waiting for the
ball to drop make you run much more than your opponent (your field is more
open than his because you are often 3, 4 steps behind the baseline). |
|
J***e 发帖数: 283 | 12 if you have really powerful/fast backhand swing, you should go for heavy,
head-light and stiff racquets, so you have better control from your
swing, not the racquet itself and you can hit the baller much harder w/o
sending it all out of bounds
single-handed backhand ground stroke is much more difficult to control,
if you are just playing slice defense, then the racquet does not really
matter too much, make sure you get a low-pound string, open pattern so
you can get a better bite off the ball

Analyze your opponent - everyone has weaknesses. What's his? Backhand
inconsistent? Has no net game? Hate moonballs? Etc. Then exploit it.
Since your guy is strong at net, what about lobbing high bouncing top-
spinning balls back to his backhand baseline? If he uses 1hbh he'll
definitely hate it... etc, etc.

that's why Federer rarely loses to

Nadal has too much topspin, the big guys don't even bother to bent to hit
the backhand. You can see Del
potro's unforced error is even less than nadal, since the backhand rally is
too easy to him. |

W*N 发帖数: 1354 | 16 Was watching Nick Bollettiere's training video yesterday. He was saying that
if you hit single-handed backhand and uses too much under arm, that will
cause chronic tennis elbow.
The correct form should be keep your arm extended while hitting the backhand
. I think that is the reason how I got my tennis elbow. Does that help in
any way? |
|
W*N 发帖数: 1354 | 17 My tennis elbow is healing nicely right now.
I think the most important thing is to find what is causing the tennis elbow
. In my case, it was incorrect movement when hitting backhand. I watched
Nick Bolletieri's video a couple of times and corrected my backhand move and
it is going great right now. |
|
b*****t 发帖数: 758 | 18 Agree. Tennis elbow is a long term injury, caused by over use, not one time
twist. So finding the cause and fixing it is important.
My tennis elbow got significantly better as soon as I abandoned single
handed backhand: I did not have to ice elbow that night I stopped single
handed backhand.

b*****t 发帖数: 758 | 22 I did that a lot as you can see the video. In fact, when i play weak 3.5 or
3.0, i hardly play any backhand regardless where they placed the balls. The
problem is that the inside-out or down the line shot needs to be of high
quality, if it is not (or you opponent is in the right spot), you ended up
with a wide-open court that is very hard to cover. I lost a lot of points
that way. So I indeed force myself to play backhands these days, especially
against stronger players. |
|
R*****n 发帖数: 610 | 23 Disagree. yes, Guga's backhand is powerful. but look deep he stepped back in
the court? That is huge disadvantage, if you trade power to position, in my
opinion. And compare to today's top guy, he is slow.
That is one of the major reasons he never won grand-slam other than 3 French
-Open.
Federer's backhand is almost perfect, fast and efficient. it is just that
Nadal's extreme topspin is too strong to handle... |

K****D 发帖数: 30533 | 27 You can hit cross court using both forehand and backhand (1 forehand, then
1 backhand), which will train your footwork as well.
You can hit one slice followed by one topspin to create different bounces.
I can't do it well consistently. Too hard.
You can control the location the ball lands on your side. It requires a
good half-court wall though (the wall replaces the net, ideally with
fenses on the other 3 sides). It's not the same as controling the ball
in the real situation but close.

dead tie, especially after Soderling saved a set point by
a lucky backhand volley. If the game was not interrupted, Federer
might not be broken, but the set seemed very likely would go into
a tie-break and hard to predict.
If Soderling didn't make the backhand volley, that would have been
a huge point for Federer - easily best point of the match and
it would turn the momentum. But that didn't happen. |

b*****t 发帖数: 758 | 33 I played 90% forehands in my matches this season:-). Seriously, you should

don't agree with this. the racquect path is from hight to low when hitting
most volley. the racquect head should always be higher than your wrist for
proper volleying. so there is a slicing action when hitting volley.
backhand volley should be easier than forhand volley if done properly.
my 2 cents:
As soon as you know you need to hit a backhand volley:
1: split steps AND change to continental grip(not eastern grip)
2: shoulder turn AND short back swing, assuming you are right handed, your

If your forehand isn't good what do you do? switch to backhand? lol
Actually I have done both shbh and dhbh. I never liked dhbh even though in

my 1hbh so well that oftentimes I even fooled myself where my shot actually

a*****3 发帖数: 10373 | 41 I feel my backhand is more consistent than forehand because of the swing

4. partner hit forehand cross court.
5. you hit forehand down the line.
6. partner hits backhand down the line.

For 3.0, simple forehand to forehand or backhand to backhand
drills are much better for improving consistency. Or just
hit the wall. |

Murray does show edge over Nadal on hard court so far, because he has
