Both my forehand and backhand grips are random.
Since I often don't have time to adjust my grips to a perfect
position, I developed the ability to hit forehand using any
grip between continental and semi-western, and hit backhand
using any grip between continental and backhand eastern (no
matter topspin or slice).

My personally experience points out many occasions where I went
for better form rather than a safer shot, and thus the ball
was out.
e.g., a wide backhand ball, in order to hit it back with the same
pace, I tried my best to do a backhand drive. Of course, I over-did
it and the ball landed 50% long.
An easy backhand slice or blocking may at least keep the ball in,
although it is ugly to my taste...

I think LZ's backhand is much better than yours. So, maybe 3.5 to weak 4.0
backhand.
I like LZ's friend's backhand a lot. footwork is hard to judge based on

hehe, which specific aspect you don't agree with?
Some of my observations:
1) LZ's friend has awesome forehand and backhand when he is in position.
2) He hits about 50% backhand using single hand blocking or slice, because
he couldn't get in position. That shot is not very solid.
3) Because of 2) I gave a 4.0 on his backhand, although his DHBH in
position could be 4.5 or higher.
4) He dumped about 50% volleys into the net, majorly due to lake of
movement.

1. no matter what, check your opponent's comfortable zone first.
- Some players are very comfortable at the baseline but not at the net.
Then you need to move him up and down instead of left and right. Especially
in 3.0/3.5 level, most of players are not good at the overhead, you can move
your player up and then use lob, especially to his backhand side.
- Many players are not consistent at the backhand. At the beginning, you
can put all the balls to his backhand. remember no need to attack

Eastern backhand grip.
I had some issue with this racket. It's too heavy for my backhand
so my timing is often slightly late. The solution is either
1) increase backhand swing strength; or
2) slice more.
Probably due to lack of topspin (racket head speed not enough).
I don't think I can swing any faster soon, so the only solution
might be to change the string.

sure, slice backhand is good enough for the double. actually for a lot of
people, even their backhands are good in singles but still not enough for
double. So don't bother to spend too much time in learning how to drive the
ball in backhand for the double.
deep cross-court forehand is the key~~

This guy only hits tennis with his arm, so almost 0 from lower body and

Yeah, I forgot backhand. But to be fair it needs to be backhand-
to-backhand overpower. Still that's possible for someone at the
same level to overpower me.
I guess a fair evaluation of item 1 and 2 is like this:
my opponent needs to hit without angle and I can do whatever.
If he can still win the match, he overpowers me.
One exception: if he forces me to 出短球,then he is allowed
to hit a net winner with angle. (Contact point has to be inside

Double

Maybe not against top 10 players.
I've seen Taufik backhand smash a serve in BBC Open Final and scored. His opponent was ranked in top 150, or maybe top 100.
Anyway, backhand is not a decisive winning factor in top MS. It's a weakness for most amateur players, and it's fun to watch when pulled off beautifully.
