professional development, training programs。以前门坎不是很高，Ph.D毕业就可
申请。虽然以前不好找工作，但近几年出乎意料地好找。据说跟很多babyboomers退休
有关。只要不挑剔地方，我所见的人都很快找到工作。况且在大的医院，起薪在六位数
。但业内人士担心，这种好境不会持序很久。所谓一个萝卜一个坑，等babyboomer们的
位置都填满了， 就不会那么容易了。这种工作有点像国内的化验科主任， 跟那些

是我父亲, 这篇文字也算是回忆他的历程罢.
不想花时间看啰嗦话的, 直接看最后一段好了.
他1965年进大学, 那个年代, 没有CS, EE, 统计, 金融, 商业,
做scientist却是很崇高的理想,
他也就跟风学了化学, 读了一年就中断了.
然后胡闹了几年, 到了1970, 终于说算你们"大学毕业"了, 分配工作.
他被分到一个小县城的化学工业研究所, 工作到70年代末,
期间在那里认识我妈, 生了我. 好象双方都没甚么可选的, 呵呵,
我妈是同单位里唯一上了大学(也是没念完就跟着造反去了)的单身女性,
那时候想调回大城市是不可能的事, 就安定下来了.
到了78还是79年, 机会来了, 恢复高考, 包括研究生, 他考上了,
总算回到他老家, 现在的一个一线城市.
读的还是高分子化学, 花三年拿了个硕士, 然后分配在原地工作.

过磁存储材料,fuel cell, 催化, 毕业了却发现相关工作好难找.后来有个屯子里的纳
米生物制药方面的research机会就从了. 从此越做越也和生物相关了. 从化学的小坑,
跳进了生物的大坑.拿着只比千老好一点点的薪水, 虽然几年自己努力拿到了身份,从此
努力申请工业方面的工作却越来越难. 曾经有过几个好的公司的电话面试,一个个都失
败了. 天天努力投简历,却如石沉大海. 心越来越凉!
碰到过猴子屯的local油服公司招聘chemist的机会, 要求有分析,有高分子背景,感觉
skill挺match.可是几个公司面试的时候人家都问:你现在在做什么啊,给我介绍介绍你
的工作,然后就废掉了.郁闷!
也试了好多猴子屯的local油公司的chemist 位置,压根连回音都没有.
难道一沾上生物就完蛋了吗?就这么悲催? 一入生物深如海.

美国食品暨药物管理局(FDA)前华裔化学家梁诚一(Cheng Yi Liang，音译)，因屡次利用与职务有关的非公开资料从事内线交易，5日获判五年徒刑。他从内线交易获得的380万元非法利益也被下令没收。
助理司法部长布鲁尔(Lanny Breuer)说：「梁诚一利用在FDA担任化学家接触的敏感内线资料，从制药业股票市场获得不法利益。他多年来利用在FDA的职务在股市轻易赚钱，可是今天的判刑显示这种做法的后果。」
卫生福利部督察长办公室特别探员马隆(Elton Malone)说：「梁某利用敏感的内线资料大胆谋利。他不知道调查人员早就利用先进科技工具发掘和追踪犯罪行为。我们将继续坚持联邦员工遵守最高标准。」

LD是food science毕业的PHD。
系头也帮忙找职位了，但是新学校food science提出了LD的Adjunct Assistant
Professor职位，non-tenure-track，教学为主。当然就不那么满意。
求有经验的前辈分享一下：
（1）Adjunct AP 的合同可以一直续下去吗？还是3-5年上限?
（2）Full-time Adjunct AP的H1B学校会帮助申请吗？
（3）作为spouse，本校内部Adjunct AP如果表现不错的话，有机会转tenure-track吗
？要不要把tenure-track eligible写一下或者什么的？
（4）LD明天面试，需要aggressive的表达她自己的tenure意愿吗？
（5）作为我而言，需要PUSH一下我的系头，再来争取一下LD的tenure-track吗？还是
这个ADJUNCT的职位已经木已成舟了？

该做开发结果跑去做QC，当然不可能高，最关键对你以后career很有影响。。至于
argue我听说过，多出2万都听说过。。公司报销旅费你去面面也不hurt，当攒经验了。。
别听楼上说Ph.D chemist说这么低正常。。 |

申请了一个小化学公司管理仪器的位置，
这个位置以前的人是个Ph.D.,刚离开。
我面试之后拿到offer，不过这个offer比期望值要低得多，
才给5万多，而且给的title才是entry level的“chemist 1"
感觉这个公司比较欺负人，job discription 上写着：
“a minimum of a BS degree in chemistry with 9 or more years' of relevant
experience, an MS degree in chemistry with 5-7 years' of relevant experience
, or a Ph.D. in chemistry with 1 - 4 years' relevant experience.”
怎么看也不是entry level的，跟他们negociate了一次，涨到6万，title变成“
chemist 2".
我觉得正常的fress Ph.D. 毕业就应该可以拿7万5左右，没想到他们给的工资这么低，

发帖数: 39 | 45 我在H1wage.com上查到他们以前申请同样title的职位工资是$75000/year.不过他们说
他们在进行reorganize，这些title什么之类的都经过调整。
但是最近他们还一直在招人，最近从他们公司跳槽的人实在太多了，
他们group贴出来招的"chemist 1"的要求就是本科毕业，有0-2年工作经验。而我应聘
的职位是要求本科毕业至少9年工作经验，或者Ph.D.毕业1-4年的工作经验。刚开始他
们给的就是"chemist 1".而且他们强调说给我办H1b，好像H1b是我的软肋。我跟他们说
job decription和给的title和工资不符合，申请不到H1b，他们说请教过律师，达到要
求了。
其实这个工作就是管理仪器，估计工作比较轻松。我要求也不是很高，给个reasonable
的工资（$70000-80000)也许就从了。但是现在看，太贬低我了。跟导师说，导师说你
拿了这个offer，以后从group出去的人都不好negociate比你高的钱了。这个公司只是
想"hire people cheap".

研发部其实Chemist居多，做催化的人家那批合成出身的Chemist比ChE强很多，而做工
程设计的其实更多的是经验，所以5年经验的BS比一个PHD更受欢迎。
大家说说ChE真的需要PHD吗？ |

发帖数: 26 | 49 本人国内高分子工科的背景,在美国读的是分析化学的PhD, 却做了好几年纳米材料. 搞
过磁存储材料,fuel cell, 催化, 毕业了却发现相关工作好难找.后来有个屯子里的纳
米生物制药方面的research机会就从了. 从此越做越也和生物相关了. 从化学的小坑,
跳进了生物的大坑.拿着只比千老好一点点的薪水, 虽然几年自己努力拿到了身份,从此
努力申请工业方面的工作却越来越难. 曾经有过几个好的公司的电话面试,一个个都失
败了. 天天努力投简历,却如石沉大海. 心越来越凉!
碰到过猴子屯的local油服公司招聘chemist的机会, 要求有分析,有高分子背景,感觉
skill挺match.可是几个公司面试的时候人家都问:你现在在做什么啊,给我介绍介绍你
的工作,然后就废掉了.郁闷!
也试了好多猴子屯的local油公司的chemist 位置,压根连回音都没有.
难道一沾上生物就完蛋了吗?就这么悲催? 一入生物深如海.
求办法! |
