I knew a few students quitted because of personal or academic reasons, and

If you move to a different school with the same mentor, then it is OK. But
if you move to a different school with a different mentor... then it is bad.
In my memory, AHA rarely agree to transfer the fellowship to a different
mentor unless with a very uncommon reason (like your boss died)
If your current boss has an adjunct position in the other university, then
it is OK and you can do the similar thing as I suggested earlier |

行业日薄西山。博士做到一半的时候，老板想了个注意，要做生物物理。有一阵一边我
累得要死，死活没结果，睡觉都能头疼醒。另一边NIH一点不甩老板的申请。艳阳天借
过酶，我有几个月连氮气都要借。
好在后来终于有了突破，老板拉来了点小钱，到毕业的时候老板俨然以biophysicist
自居了，我也算改行了。 找薄厚的时候来了运气，有个牛组要了我。当时老板到处晒
我的offer，比我自己还高兴。我博士的老板对学生还是不错的，可惜就是行业不景气
以来，学生毕业他也帮不上什么忙，就业都成问题，到我这里他觉得自己转行成功了，
学生都能去牛组了。
于是我就踌躇满志地去牛人那里报道了。刚到的时候，很不习惯。若高一栋楼，每层楼

I once directly sent an email to a big name inviting for seminars in my
campus and our dept chair was kinda angry saying I should follow the email

the class setting and overall program design. I also struggled a lot with my
mentor for the basic training of experimental skills and life expect
conflicts and so and so. I think I would be happier if I had a mentor like
you:)

第二个面试官年纪比较大, 做partner至少有十几年了, 看起来很严肃. 我进去的时候

人际关系的相处，好的mentor让resident会让你几年里都非常受益。不仅是学业，还有
很多为人处事的道理。所以不要只盯着看这个医生的学术是否强，一定要看他的style
，为人，是不是和你的观念相合，否则所谓mentor，徒有虚名了。

我是作为过来人的身份，担心大家没有深思熟虑，一腔热情地跟风挖井 -- 做专科，结
果后来发现这不是自己最想要的或最合适的，白白浪费了时间精力和热情。
还有一重要原因是，有些Program的PD希望尽快知道你的初步职业方向和打算，好在你进入医院后给你
安排相应的Mentor.举一个例，我一朋友，他进Program前想做GI，做的Observership也
是GI,可是后来经过考虑权衡，选择了Hem/Onc，最后PD给他安排的Mentor便是那家医院
的Hem/Onc权威.他也聪明地早早地跟那医生联系，抽空就去他诊所学习再加上之后专门
的Elective，将来拿封好推荐信及利用这条重要的新Connection去申请Fellow,就是水
到渠成的事了。
我还有一朋友，因考版耽搁了生孩子，虽然研究背景很强，但还是决定不读专科，走
PCP的路，早早就向PD表明做一个好PCP的决心，PD给她安排了一个当地做Private
Clinic做得很好的Attending做Mentor,且安排了去外院做她想做的皮肤科Away

OB中如何树立好的印象和推荐信：
inpatient OB：细节打动人
1.先和medical student介绍自己，做朋友，然后问他们是否介绍一下attending的习惯
和查房的schedule这些background已经常见的提问。
2.和nurse和student熟悉以后，可以了解哪个attending是否喜欢带教学，如果确定后
，问attending是否可以跟他几周，这样写的LoR也strong。
3.眼里要有活：帮助查资料
4.找LoR： 看着attending的眼睛说Could you please help me to write a strong
recommendation letter for application? 如果对方很肯定地答应，这个推荐信应该
不错。如果是再次申请的，用旧的 AAMC number，现在就可以要推荐信了，可以装在信
封里面封闭，拿在自己手里。最好有1个月的时间给attending写信的时间准备。如果医
生要drift template，可以给他。

mentor_one_mentee_active 数据库里面有另外一些mentor的名字 （mentor_name_1），
mentor_name_2里面的一些名字和mentor_name_1里面的名字是一样的，
我想看看哪些mentor的名字两个数据库里面都有，
我用sql create 一个 macro variable，
然后查找，可是最后给我的结果是0，原因是: The quoted string currently being
processed has become more than 262 characters long. You may have unbalanced
quotation marks.
不知道哪位sas高人能给指点一下，怎样解决这个sas macro的问题。
BTW： 我知道可以用 sas data step来merge两个 databases。可是，我不想这样做，
因为还要sort数据，rename variable。

氧操的课堂，人气在动感的音乐声中沸腾。于是，好奇的我钻了进去。从此，开始和
Zumba深深结缘。学校里的Zumba课一星期3次，每一堂课都让我在学习之余无比期待。
我总是站在最前排中间靠左的那个spot，很high地跟着老师跳，让汗水尽情挥洒。
只是当时没想到有一天，我也会站在instructor的位置，带着大家分享健身舞蹈的欢乐。
去年春天，有一次课后我跟老师Rachel聊天。她说，你跳得很好呀，可以考虑做
instructor。我当时很吃惊，因为我从来没有过这个念头。首先跟Rachel比，我永远是
学生的水平。而且更重要的是，我把Zumba当成课余健身放松的一种方式，如果要做
instructor，一定没有那种放松的享受，因为要编舞，要记动作，要准时到课堂。我这

初识Zumba，是3年前的冬天。清楚地记得当时要准备从gym出来，路过一个貌似在跳有
氧操的课堂，人气在动感的音乐声中沸腾。于是，好奇的我钻了进去。从此，开始和
Zumba深深结缘。学校里的Zumba课一星期3次，每一堂课都让我在学习之余无比期待。
我总是站在最前排中间靠左的那个spot，很high地跟着老师跳，让汗水尽情挥洒。
只是当时没想到有一天，我也会站在instructor的位置，带着大家分享健身舞蹈的欢乐。
去年春天，有一次课后我跟老师Rachel聊天。她说，你跳得很好呀，可以考虑做
instructor。我当时很吃惊，因为我从来没有过这个念头。首先跟Rachel比，我永远是

在明州西北部地区，龙卷风导致Almora镇一名妇女和Mentor镇一个加油站业主丧生，明州南部地区Albert Lea镇西部的一名妇女，因房屋倒塌而丧命。
距富国市(Fargo)东南70哩、人口约4300的瓦德纳市，似乎财产损失最为严重。龙卷风摧毁或损坏了数十栋房屋和其他建筑，吹倒了电线杆和全市大部分地区的树木。
瓦德纳市的18岁居民莎拉.卡本特说﹕「我们起初在户外看，后来躲进屋裡，龙卷风非常厉害。」她家的房屋几乎被摧毁，一家人是在镇上的AmericInn旅馆过夜。
