junior faculty 最需要啥。我大嘴巴说最需要人帮我们在正式递交grant proposal之
前帮我们mock review. 结果是捅了马蜂窝一堆人吵成一团。现在的发展是上头要求我
弄一个正式的presentation在下一个会议里给他们看, 所以我需要大家帮帮我的忙给我
提供一下相关信息。
里面包含的内容之一是哪些学校有这种服务。我知道的是UPenn, U of Michigan, MD
Anderson 有类似的服务，就是年轻发考题可以把自己的grant proposal 先交到校内去
进行 mock review，让senior 给他们提意见，好好修改之后才投到funding agency去
。不知道其他什么学校也有类似的服务？
另外一个内容就是，那些服务是免费的还是收钱的？如果收钱，收多少？
第三个就是，那些提供服务的senior，是义务服务还是有偿的？如果有偿，需要给多少？

给我的学生读一下，明年要上market，是个聪明勤奋的学生，但是口头交流能力需要大
大提高。想想，做你的学生应该是挺幸运的。
又到找工作的季节了，几乎每个系都有recruiting committee，可惜不是每个系都有
placement committee。看到过做得好的系，从cover letter到各种statement都有模版
，申请材料有人proof reading并给comments，还专门请几个老师组织mock interview
，参加mock job talk。All else being equal，这个对要上market的学生还是挺有帮

这个服务。只要愿意，可以多去预约mock几次。
几个题大概写了下想法。
1. social graph
两个想法。
第一个，允许suboptimal solution的话，用greedy。标准就是前面有人说的，选邻边
的时候，选没有收到消息的邻边最多的那个节点。一个足够scalable的network，这样
做应该能非常接近最优解。
第二个，要最优解得exhaustive遍历了。dfs + backtrace。走到不能走了，记录长度
跟路径。backtrace回去。遍历完所有可能性。
很容易证明，这题用greedy或者dp都不work。
2. search FB status
好像就是google那篇paper里边的那一套，inverted index + map/reduce。先index每
个status中每个关键字，建inverted index。每个关键字可以hash到一个整数上。然后
每个机器负责一个range的关键字。

得会不会被加黑名单。。。
觉得FAIL掉主要在几个方面：
１面试官对具体做了什么问的很细，问了写了多少行CODE，俺平时根本木留意这个KK因
为TEAM上就俺一个写SW。。。
２问为啥不用API。。。开始没说清楚三方软件不开源。。。他认为我们在REVERSE
ENGINEERING，没解释清楚。。
３问到在GRAD SCHOOL的时候教LAB课拿了什么RATING。。俺是帮老板带课，学生都是
REVIEW老板，这个也没说清楚。。。
４开始连不上就比较蹊跷。。所以也不能怨社会KK

背景：agricultural chemistry相关, PhD, 一年postdoc，有30多publications (包括
research papers, reviews and book chapters), 1 个专利，很多awards。
申请及面试经历：
1． 新加坡一高校, AP：video面试后邀请onsite，两天时间，第一天做研究报告，第
二天试教一堂课，其中有跟主要faculty见面，参观系实验室之类的。
感觉：比较bureaucratic， 他们领导不喜欢自信飞扬的，比较喜欢对他们唯唯诺诺多
多奉承那种。喜欢吹捧自己，贬低北美大学。很多形式主义，不管faculty还是学生，
感觉都面有菜色，不开心的样子。跟其中几个教授谈的时候（面试环节之一），他们甚
至建议我不要来，应该去别的地方，他们都好想跳出火坑。
结果：被拒。
经验教训：我觉得是礼仪方面没做好，吹捧他们不够，离开中国太久，对东方文化有点
陌生了。当然也可能是自己经验不够，很多地方表现太嫩，回答问题太直，问什么答什
么，不够圆滑，不会绕弯。而且准备也不充分，很多问题都没事先准备好答案。穿着也

真准备，挂得没脾气，然后读那些面试技巧的书，练习，后来3个电面，找full－time
的，全悲剧，有两个是技术问题没答好，有个是hr随便问几个问题就据了。
我发现我在电话里经常听不清对方说话，甚至对方是说中文，都怀疑自己有听力问题了。
上周我去career service找人mock interview（interviewer是career service从各公
司里请来的recruiter之类的人），可feedback都是很好的（可能因为是
mock interview，一点都不紧张）。

I received such training at school for free, and also set up a mock

是让我把面试推一推。可是我没有opt，要申h1b的话再推怕来不及了，只能硬上。

都是正面的都正在准备包裹。回馈一下版面分享下面试的经验。
1. 面试题目。可能是我运气比较好吧，基本都是旧面经里面的题目和基础题，就不多
说了，说多了他们真的就不再出这些题目了。可以理解面试题目是大家所最关心的，但
是千万别只看面试题目。要从基础做起，用面试题来查缺补漏和做mock。看到很多人最
基本的DP都还搞不懂，就抱着G家stretch的题目瞎琢磨。。。这样真的没什么用，就算
捉摸出来也写不出来，还浪费时间。
2. 接着说说我怎么准备的。算法题我基本就是刷了一遍leetcode，然后偶尔随机写几
道。虽然我没再看书，但是如果刷leetcode简单和中等题觉得吃力还是要赶快停下来，
多去翻翻算法导论，至少例题都要会。leetcode也不要说AC就好，多看看discuss里面
，别人总会有很好的做法或者一些不同的做法。这些基础的东西面试官随便改改就是道
新题，但是总归思想都是一样的。如果这样准备下来的话，面试前翻翻这里和一亩三分
地的面经，就会发现其实也不是很难。多找人Mock，发现自己的不足。

了说话的时候，会有“嗯”的习惯要改掉这个毛病。面试的时候，我感觉也非常好，和
面试官的交流互动都很好，欢声笑语的。结果这几天连着收了2个拒信。很郁闷啊，这

我刚去查了下我悲剧的这两家公司sponsor H1B的情况，每年这两家公司给R&D申请的
H1B都是只有两三个。很有可能是因为没有绿卡这个原因悲剧 |

mock 这种常见的东西玩熟了是好事 我还挺感谢烙印实习老板让我做一部 refactor 大
系统的活，并学写 mock test
真是不少用 这个真是适合刚入职场的人干的 必备技能
另外 C++ 转 Java 其实挺好的 以后也方便跳 我还想转语言组里却没这样的活
