Height 6 feet 2 inches (1.88 m)
Weight 165 pounds (75 kg) |

如果只从营养健康角度讲,纯素食可能真没啥优势? |

w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 7 I'd say that El Guerrouj, Bekele and Geb have all been equally dominant.
They all deserve the No.1 ranking.
Scott Jurek, awesome as he is, never faced nearly as tough competitions at
the elite level. |

w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 9 Not all ultramarathoners are slow runners.:) Josh Cox is superfast at all
distances. Also Michael Wardian. The king of ultra, Scott Jurek, actually
has a much slower marathon time than these guys (which is of course still
super fast by the normal human standard).

w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 10 Last week I was running on the treadmill, reading runner's world. Stories of
Scott Jurek, Kara Goucher, and a
story of a runner recovering from a near death accident, were enough to
bring me to tears. While there was
hardly distinction between tears and sweat at that moment, it was clear that
this is not something that would
happen to me had I been reading the magazine on the toilet seat as opposed
to being on the treadmill. And at
that moment, I knew I was having runner's high.:) |

ultramarathon. They hold the 100k

this is you can set up a tent in the middle and take a nap if you are too

4931 | 31 The WS course is much more challenging though. There has been only one man who could sustain 9 min pace
at WS100.:) Just to get an idea how difficult that is: while Scott Jurek's record pace at WS100 is 9:00, when he
did his 24 hour run on flat loops his pace was 7:00 in the first few hours.
The most difficult part of getting in WS100 is the lottery. All other
qualification standards are easy. The
hardest 100-miler is hardrock 100. In fact, WS100 is among the easiest
qualification races for hard |

w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 35 How about winning the Leadville 100-mile trail race (much tougher than
western states 100), in leather sandals, with no specific training at all? Trust me, the
author is a true journalist. His subjects ranges from tribal runners to
Olympics coach to Scott Jurek, and he knows about sports science.
In fact, I was skeptical about the book just like you are, before I read it. Read it, and you'll see.

w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 37 Of course, Dean is still quite awesome. He's just been chest beating a bit
too much. Not to mention Scott
Jurek. Ever heard of Ann Trason, Jenn Shelton? |
|
w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 38 No doubt that if you train to peak once a year for a single race, a strict training plan is necessary. But no
sensible training plan and no sensible coach would allow Scott Jurek to race (and win) badwater AND western
states, in a single month, two weeks apart. I say push it whenever you feel like, don't hold back. That being
said, if you are at the start of a 40-mile training run, you don't need anyone else to tell you to keep your heart

b***i 发帖数: 10018 | 39 It's possible to hold the peak form for weeks. That doesn't mean Scott Jurek

Yes, for ultramarathoners, even marathon pace feels like sprinting.

w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 41 By the way, do you know that Scott Jurek doesn't take gels on training runs?
He brings pita bread instead. |
|
w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 42 I think that is precisely why you feel hungry and still cannot lose weight -
- there is zero fiber in white
rice/noodle, and you will have to eat more calories to feel satisfied. By
the way, if you look at the diet of Dean
Karnazes or Scott Jurek, you are unlikely to find white rice/bread in it. |
|
w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 43 Dean's body is a bit massive for running -- he is into many different sports
anyway. His marathon time is not
of elite caliber. He does well in ultramarathons because of his inhuman
training, his will power, and the ability
to push his body to its very limit. Still, he has never won a major trail
ultramarathon race - he'd have no chance
against Scott Jurek or Ann Trason. His best finish at western states is #4.
He did win badwater one year. |
|
w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 44 That is completely unknown - which is why ultra is fun.:)
When Scott Jurek ran his first badwater, he was vomiting and collapsed to the
side of the road at mile 60. He
laid there for 10 minutes motionlessly. Then he got up, ran the next 75
miles, won the race and set the course
record. |
|
w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 45 dehydration and heat stroke, probably yes. how he could recover...well, no
idea, that's why he is scott jurek. |
|
w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 46 While 2:30 is not exactly elite level, it definitely takes raw talent. The
best runner in my former running club,
an 45 yr old architect, ran a 2:36 marathon. That's a guy who does track
workout at sub 5 minute pace and
runs 100 miles per week. Not even Scott Jurek can run a marathon this fast. |
|
b***i 发帖数: 10018 | 47 scott jurek is wearing shoes (he looks a little bit fat in this photo).

|
w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 48 Yes, that is currently the best Tarahumara runner, who narrowly beat Scott
Jurek in the first Copper Canyon
50-miler (with a very hard course). |
|
w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 49 Actually I don't think I ran too fast at the beginning. The sign of running
too fast a pace is hitting the wall and worn-out of the muscle -- neither of
which happened to me. In fact, you are supposed to run a extremely positive
split in a 24-hour race. When Scott Jurek set the American record in 24-
hour run, he started at 7:00 pace and finished averaging 8:34 pace.
Similarly, when Yiannis Kouros set the world record in 24-hour run, he ran
the first 3 hours at 6:52 pace, and ended up averaging |
